Saskatchewan Greens Support Improved Municipal Infrastructure
Saskatoon, Saskatchewan - While campaigning, it's impossible for provincial politicians not to notice the deteriorated state of many Saskatchewan streets and highways. This is why the Green Party of Saskatchewan has proposed creating a new Crown Corporation called SaskRoads to fix and maintain provincial highway infrastructure. Provincial highways and bridges are not the only transportation infrastructure of concern to Saskatchewan residents, however. Urban and Rural Municipalities must maintain a variety of bridges, roads, water and waste systems, sometimes with not enough provincial funding to meet modern demands.
Saskatchewan Greens intend to make us One Saskatchewan, more connected, and universally more attractive for people to live and thrive in our communities, by improving the province's infrastructure. This includes "greening" the power grid, making sure there are enough safety inspections and repairs to provincial and municipal bridges, right through to providing modern necessities like curb-side recycling for Urban Municipalities, and accessible drop off points for valuable waste materials in Rural Municipalities.
Larry Waldinger, Green Party of Sask. candidate in Saskatoon-Sutherland notes, "Recycling in Saskatoon is another issue that constituents frequently bring up on their door steps." Most Saskatchewan municipalities do not yet have basic curb-side recycling options universally available to them as other parts of Canada do. There is economic opportunity for the Saskatchewan people, through bringing real recycling options to everyone's doorstep. The City of Edmonton is expected to make more than $6,400,000 profit on their partnership with a private waste disposal company, while selling cleaned and sorted raw materials thrown into the trash.
