Cumberland by-election results

Congratulations Tory!  Tory McGregor received 5.8% of the popular vote in the Cumberland by-election held on June 25.  He came in third place after Doyle Vermette of the NDP (49.7%), and Dale McAuley of the Sask Party (44.5%).  Tory worked extremely hard during the campaign, knocking on every door in La Ronge and traveling to several surrounding communities.  Tory’s result shows just how important it is for GPS candidates to get out and talk with voters.

The Sask Party and the NDP were talking about housing, roads, and health – the issues of the environment, the boreal forest, the Churchill River, and the exploitation of resources, were not being talked about.  The Green Party brought that to the center of the debate!  We discussed the role of First Nation’s and Metis’ governing bodies in the development of resources and talked about using traditional ecologicual knowledge in the mandating of an environmental review commission to oversee natural resource development.  The Green Party’s ideas were heard.  Doyle Vermette of the NDP also began talking about an environmental review commission.  We need to ensure this gets established.

The important issues of the environmental, land use, and sustainability are not being talked about by the other parties.  Join the Green Party and show that these issues are important to people of the north.  We will be establishing a regional group in the north and holding a policy forum in September.  Please contact us to get involved.
