Samuel was born and raised on a Traditional trapline along the Churchill River in Northern Saskatchewan. When he was 10 years old he was sent to Prince Albert Residential School. He would return home in the summer months. He graduated from Prince Albert Technical High School at the age of 22.
Samuel never lost his first language, Cree and has never lost his connection with the land.
Samuel has worked in many different fields. He’s worked as a fishing guide for an outfitter and he also worked as a canoeing guide on the Churchill River. He was a fire fighter when there was a fire suppression policy. He also hunted and trapped for many years. Samuel worked as a Cree Language teacher, Audio Visual Technician, School Tutor and School Elder.
Samuel and his wife, Hope were invited by his late mother-in-law, Janet Fietz, to trap with her at Far Lake, her trapline. There he learned how to built cabins and how to live off the land and up to this day that’s where his heart is.
Some of Samuel’s interests are ski-dooing and snowshoeing in the winter, and during summer months he likes canoeing, camping, hiking and just enjoying nature to the fullest. He also likes creating music and photography.
From Samuel:
I decided to join and run for the Green Party of Saskatchewan because I believe they are the only party that are serious about saving our environment. I want our lands, air and water to be clean, preserved and protected. The Green Party values life above profits. I feel the Green Party’s principles and policies are honourable and just.
